Nissan is set for a resurgence in the Indian market with the reveal of its new Gravite 7-seater MPV. This car is developed based on the Renault Triber but features a new design language, updated interiors, and enhanced comfort features.
The powertrain is expected to remain largely unchanged from the Triber. So, what can we expect from the upcoming Triber’s sibling?
Nissan Gravite Expectations & Highlights
The Japanese automaker says this car is designed for Indian families as a more versatile 7-seater B-MPV. The Gravite will feature a bold and distinctive global design with a signature C-shaped front grille that gives it a strong road presence.
It will also be the only vehicle in its segment to feature hood branding and rear door badging. Additionally, it features an aluminium garnish along the hood, connecting the LED DRLs, as well as similar detailing on the bumpers, giving it a more premium look. The Gravite will also come equipped with LED headlamps and LED taillights.
Versatile Cabin Experience
The Gravite is expected to offer a roomy cabin similar to the Triber MPV, but with a redesigned dashboard layout. The interior will be more family-friendly, offering additional cargo space, comfortable seating, and more convenience features.
Triber’s Powertrain
Despite the changes to the exterior and interior, the new Nissan Gravite will carry the same powertrain as its Renault sibling. The 1.0L three-cylinder petrol engine produces 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque and will be available with both manual and automatic transmission options. A CNG variant will also be offered for improved fuel efficiency.
Launch Timeline
The Nissan Gravite is expected to launch by January 2026 and will compete against models such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6, Toyota Rumion, and the Renault Triber. Sales are expected to begin in March 2026. It will join the Nissan lineup alongside the Magnite and the X-trail, which have been the brand’s only two offerings in India for the last few years.
Nissan is also planning to launch a new compact SUV based on the upcoming Renault Duster, expected to be named the Tekton. It will follow Nissan’s latest design language, inspired by the new-generation Patrol. This SUV will be revealed in February 2026, following the Duster SUV reveal on January 26, 2026. Both cars will rival the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the Kia Seltos.
Additionally, Nissan is planning to launch a C-segment 7-seater SUV by mid-2026, which will rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO (upcoming), Jeep Meridian, and Tata Safari. Overall, 2026 is going to be a big year for the Indian auto industry and will play a crucial role in Nissan’s revival.
